Assessment
ADELANTE uses objective criteria to determine your business’ level of accessibility for Latinos. The assessment is divided into four categories: hospitable environment, services clearly defined in Spanish, services performed in Spanish, and business transaction clearly defined and explained in Spanish. The assessment will be followed within three business days by a one-page document in which we will explain in detail each score and make recommendations for improvement along with recommendations necessary for ADELANTE certification. See Certification Requirements
Translating
Translating is the transfer of written text from one language to another. The translation process normally involves a combination of the following activities: reading through original material and rewriting it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained; liaising with clients to discuss any unclear points; proofreading and editing final translated versions; and providing clients with a grammatical, well-expressed final version of the translated text, usually as a word-processed document.
Interpreting
Interpreting is the transfer of spoken word from one language to another. We offer quality, on-site oral interpreting by appointment, or a member of our team can be in your office for a set number of hours each week.
Cultural workshop
Becoming ADELANTE-certified means much more than simply being able to communicate with Spanish-speaking customers. ADELANTE-certified businesses and organizations must show a commitment to bridging the gap between cultures. The Latino Advocacy Center in partnership with ADELANTE has designed an interactive workshop in which immigration facts, trends, and stories are shared as well as suggestions to diffuse the cultural divide to increase your staff’s overall understanding of the perspective of the Latino client and increase the likelihood that you will gain and retain Latino clientele. This workshop is required for ADELANTE certification.
Adelante Phone Service - Línea ADELANTE 828-216-8075
Members of the ADELANTE network have the option to join Línea ADELANTE . The Línea ADELANTE phone number is advertised as part of the logo all over the area. Spanish-speakers know to call that number to set up an appointment with any one of the ADELANTE businesses in the area. An ADELANTE representative will be available to receive all Spanish inquiries for appointments, get in touch with your business’ staff, coordinate with an interpreter, and set up appointments at mutually agreed upon times so that your business is able to fully serve Spanish-speaking clients.
Spanish Brochure
Let ADELANTE create a Spanish brochure for your business including the services and products that your business offers, prices, frequently asked questions, and instructions on how to be served in Spanish. Once you provide the English text and an electronic version of your business’ logo, we will translate the text into Spanish, design, and create a color brochure that is professional, attractive, and easy to understand. Spanish-speaking customers who enter your business will be able to fully understand what you do and understand how the process works for conducting business in Spanish. In addition, this Spanish brochure will leave with the Latino customer and end up in the hands of others in the community.
Customized Mini-Dictionary
ADELANTE can help you learn the basic Spanish skills you need to be able to welcome and inform potential Spanish-speaking clients. In addition to Spanish lessons, we can create a custom-designed Mini-Dictionary of terms that you might need in your specific business. When a Spanish-speaking client enters or calls your business, this Mini-Dictionary can be referenced quickly to help you recall key business-specific phrases and terms necessary to properly greet and inform the potential customer. Additional communication can be conducted by a bilingual member of your staff or through the ADELANTE Phone Service.
Certification
Businesses who meet the ADELANTE certification requirements are eligible to join the network of “Latino-friendly” businesses. ADELANTE-certified businesses gain the right to display the ADELANTE logo on signs, letterheads, storefronts, advertisements, phone directory listings, websites, etc. to notify potential Latino customers that they are welcome and that you are fully able serve them.
